San Diego Residential Real Estate: Past, Present – and Future?
Our next FENG evening event will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at the UCSD Faculty Club from 5:30 to 8:00 pm. The program will be: "San Diego Residential Real Estate: Past, Present – and Future?". We anticipate a lively panel discussion, featuring a stellar lineup of experts covering the full spectrum of opinions about where the local residential real estate market has been, where it is now and, most intriguingly, where it's going.
This is our second annual event featuring a panel discussion on residential real estate in San Diego - the first time we have ever had a "second annual" of any event. It was so well received last summer that it is literally back by popular demand, featuring the same moderator and almost the same panelists. In fact, our moderator has saved his notes from last year and it will be interesting to see how viewpoints have evolved and changed following the ensuing debacle in the market.
Moderator - Alan Ray
Alan Ray is the Senior Editor for radio station KPBS here in San Diego. Alan has had a nearly 40-year career in radio, having been at News Radio KSDO in San Diego in the '70s, reporter/anchor at KIRO in Seattle and at KCBS in San Francisco, and morning news producer at popular KGO Radio in San Francisco.
Panelist - Gary London
Gary is the President of San Diego's London Group Realty Advisors. The London Group provides real estate consulting and economic analysis to developers, investors, lenders, attorneys and public agencies. Gary is an often-cited expert in SignOnSanDiego and San Diego Metropolitan Uptown Examiner & Daily Business Report.
Panelist - Bruce Norris
As President of the Norris Group, Bruce is an active investor, hard money lender, and real estate educator with over 25 years experience. He has been involved in over 2,000 real estate transactions as a buyer, seller and money partner. Bruce predicted the current real estate market crash back in January of 2006, and further predicted that foreclosures will increase by 1,500-2,000% from 2005 to 2010.
Panelist - Jim Klinge
Jim is a 24-year practitioner in the San Diego real estate market, and is the owner of Klinge Realty, specializing in the residential market in Carlsbad, Oceanside, Vista and other parts of North County. He publishes a popular blog, Bubbleinfo.com, which is an insider's guide to SD North County real estate.
Panelist - Alan Nevin
Alan is Director of Economic Research at Marketpointe Realty Advisors. He has over 30 years experience in demographic and economic research, and is a senior advisor for real estate programs at the UCSD Extension program. Alan is also a founding member of the UCSD Economics Roundtable.
Topic Discussion Overview
For many of us, having heard this discussion over a year ago, it will be compelling to see how these same experts – and one new one – see the San Diego market from the ve vantage point of 15 months later. The market crash has been dramatic; it appears to continue its downward trend with no end in sight. We expect this discussion to be fascinating. Attendees will learn a lot about the market and what, for most of us, is our single largest personal asset.
As always, the event will be interactive, engaging and fun. Prior to the panel discussion, there will be a cash bar, complimentary hors d'oeuvres in abundance, mellow background music and a great chance to network with old friends and new colleagues.
The event is free for FENG members and their guests.
