In the planning stages in 2011: A number of our members, after a couple of decades in senior financial executive positions, have set themselves up in business as fulltime consultants, sharing the benefit of their experience with many clients. In addition, some members who are in career transition perform consulting services in the interim. With the vast majority of FENG members typically working as executives inside companies, and often needing an extra, interim pair of hands to help them in their work, there is a ready market for service needs and service providers — all right within the FENG membership. The San Diego FENG, along with its sister chapters in other parts of southern California, has begun to explore ways to enable FENG members who are currently “sitting in the chair” — i.e., as CFOs, Controllers, Finance Directors, Treasurers, etc. — and who need interim assistance in their companies, to find out about available and relevant consulting talent within the FENG membership. The southern California chapters are hoping to develop a program to make the companies aware of this talent pool and to make the consultant members aware of such opportunities to help their fellow executive members in senior positions inside the companies in our communities.
New San Diego FENG initiative: Some members have asked in the past about making our many superb speaker presentations available for Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit. This will be of interest for those members with CPA, CMA or other professional designations requiring annual maintenance. We are pleased to announce that, with our April 2011 meeting, we began the formal procedures necessary to issue such credit, and have begun sending out CPE certifications to those members seeking CPE credits and attending the presentations.
